Creativity. By definition means the use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work. So, it has something to do with art...or could there possibly be more to it than that? Like, is it the reason why classical musicians can convey such amazing, tear jerking stories? Or how artists can make beautiful masterpieces with just some paint and canvas? Could it be the reason why dancers are able to move their bodies so gracefully and emotionally that the audience truly understands what they wish to express? What if creativity is something that lives within all of us, not just the artists, and can be used in everyday life?
Let’s back up a little bit and see how we can break this down. Take a look at kids. They’re everywhere and hard to miss. You see them at the grocery store with an airplane zooming around their mom’s head. They envision how a plane would make noises and then do it themselves. Thinking all on their own the story that they wish to play out. How does this happen? How can a little 6 year old kid come up with something like that? Well, I believe it comes from a part inside him. Maybe in his brain, or more closer to his heart. It’s called imagination. Where creativity is born.
An idea in someone’s head is like a seed. It forms from a mere thought, embedding itself into your mind. Becoming all you can think about. The now plant consumes you, a part of every moment of your life. The plant is fully grown now, the idea almost completely developed. All it needs is for you to enact it, letting your creative juices flow and never giving up. That’s just the start. Anyone can be creative and come up with an idea but it takes a real artist, of any kind, to make it really bloom.
I believe everyone is born with this ability, the idea cycle. But it really takes hard work to make the idea successful. Sometimes even years for it to fully develop. So, even though everyone has this ability, it doesn’t always work out. For some cases you have to be completely devoted to it, like when a writer comes up with a story and they have to meet a deadline to finish it. This causes them to rush the ending, snuffing out the creativity and making the book not as successful as it could’ve been. Or for an artist they could come up with a great painting idea, start it, leave for awhile, then completely forget where they wanted to go with it. It could happen in everyday life too, if someone needs to make a presentation, they run out of time, and get a bad grade because they rushed to finish it.
So,creativity can be easily obtained and easily lost. It completely depends on the person and how much they’re willing to work for it. But, you shouldn’t worry. If you want to become a writer, artist, musician, or anything else, just put your heart into it and your own creativity will shine through.
